I improved the Unbuffer pedal slightly, making it a dual-purpose device equally beneficial when using the wireless or a cable. I think it’s improved the tonal quality of both and has become an established element in my rig.
I added a 2nd switch, so now I have a volume bypass and a tone bypass. In addition to that I wired it so that even in full bypass, the signal is always going through the transformers.
The transformers have such a subtle affect on the tone, but somehow make everything sound a bit better to my ears. However, the beauty of this device now is that even with the pots bypassed the noise gate still blocks out the noise when using the WL-20!
This means that if I don’t want any influence on the signal from the pots then I can have that option; true bypass the pots, but still capitalize on the benefits of the transformers.
If I want to match the level from the wireless to that of the cable then I just set the volume pot to the mark that I calibrated already and as a bonus I have available, should I want them, switchable volume and tone presets for cleaning up a dirty tone or going from bright to mellow tones.
So for live, wireless use it does a perfect job of eliminating noise from my rig and overcoming interactivity issues with my guitar and pedals. In the studio it’s a really musical-sounding tonal sculpting device which has a slightly different (better to my ears) effect than the volume and tone on the guitar.
For the cost of zero, because I already had all the parts and materials, this unbuffer device has turned out to be one of the best additions to my rig for ages!
