The One I Was Nervous About

It turns out that this was a breeze. Well, maybe I just got lucky, but everything went so well that I can’t help thinking it’s really not a big deal to do a mod like this.

As long as you’re careful and patient. In total I think this job took about 30 minutes to complete and it was made possible by following a simple, but specific process and a couple of essential tools.

Before it was a toploading bridge (which I had already upgraded from the stock Squier bridge) and after it is now a string-thru-body loading bridge with brass saddles. The reason this was a daunting task was because of the absolute necessity to get the holes drilled straight. If they are not then the result is, at best ugly and at worst a ruined guitar. You can imagine my hesitation.

I wasn’t worried about ruining this guitar for any kind of financial reason. I was worried because it’s one of my favourite guitars that I’ve ever owned despite being one of the cheapest. With all the mods I’m performing on the Squier Bullet Hardtail, it can no longer be called a cheap guitar, but it still comes out as an amazing investment, seeing as it’s played loads of gigs and has paid for itself many times over even if you count the money that has been spent on all the mods.

Well, the short story is that the string-thru conversion went ahead without a hitch and I’m very, very happy with it. In the next day or so I will finish the connecting of the electronics and assembly & setup of the Bullet, which will see it start the next chapter of it’s service as the “Claptonized Bullet”.

I have another top-loading Partscaster that I am now likely to convert to string-thru after this success, so if and when I do I’ll document that in a video… Now that I know better what I am doing. I think it’ll be a good idea to demonstrate how daunting tasks like this can be done relatively easily with simple tools and a bit of nerve.

So the Claptonized Bullet is almost there. There’ll be a demo of it before too long on the Rob C Youtube Channel
