Another All-in-One Pedal Board Rig for 2021

This board is based around the Orange Terror Stamp amplifier.

I’ve had the Terror Stamp for a while, but didn’t really bond with it right away. The main reason being that the EQ control on the amp is a bit limited. I miss having the bass, middle & treble control on the amp and I couldn’t get it to sound right across a wide enough spectrum of tones for a typical gig that I am likely to play.

So just after Christmas I decided to have another go after modding my DS-2 and wanting to find a purpose for it. It turns out that the Orange is a little fussy about which pedals it likes to sound good with (to my ears anyway), but as luck would have it, the DS-2 and the Terror Stamp have quite an understanding – they sound great together despite the DS-2 being pretty noisy.

However, while the pairing of the two “Orange” boxes was successful I still had to spend about a day swapping out the pedals I have spare until I found what I think works well as a complete system. It’s not perfect, but it never will be without that BMT EQ control on the amp!

The board is complete, pending the arrival of a new noise gate. The DS-2 makes enough noise to render a noise gate pointless after it, but it helps greatly if I put one before it to at least deal with the noise coming from the pickups and the pedals earlier in the chain.

Because my DS-2 is now two distortion pedals in one I opted to add just one other overdrive and add more in the way of effects to complete this rig. I normally focus more on stages of gain, but this rig is going to be used for when I’m playing a more rhythm-based role, requiring less steps up and down in gain/volume. Well that’s the idea anyway.

I have the option of running at 20w into a 1×10, 8Ω Jensen cab (the Tonetubby 10″ is too midrange focused for this amp I find) or I can run at 12w into my Kustom Defender 1×12, 16Ω.

Even at 12w this thing is loud, although I haven’t had a chance to try it out in a real situation yet. I have a feeling that even at 12w this thing is louder than the Hotone Britwind, which I am normally running at 40w!

I’m not using the FX loop. I’m running the delay into the front of the amp and I’m setting that relatively clean. I’m also running everything (pre-delay) through a limiter to make the jump in volume less extreme when going from cleaner, quieter tones to more aggressive distortion and leads.

The board is a DIY job. I had already made it earlier in the year, but re-engineered the top layer so the DS-2 would fit better on the bottom row. This rig can also run on a USB power bank via a USB 5v to 9v DC converter.
