I have two Squier Bullet Hardtail Stratocasters, which I have modded and upgraded. They are basically carbon copies of each other, save the colour and they both play the main and backup role in my guitar rig. (video inside)

Even Better Than Before

I have further simplified the functionality of both my Squier Bullet Hardtail Strats, which are currently my first-choice gigging guitars.

The setup is now very much like the original Stratocaster wiring from the 50s & 60s: 3-way switch, no tone on the bridge pickup and a tone control for each of the remaining 2 pickups.

The pickups differ of course, being that they both have a PAF-style hum bucker in the bridge position and I chose tone cap values that differ from what you’d find on an original, vintage Strat, which I prefer (0.01µF for neck and 0.022µF for middle).

By adjusting the pickup heights accordingly and selecting pickups with a certain output, along with the tone-capacitor values I think I’ve found the ultimate combination of simplicity and versatility.

The simplicity is obvious. Three pickups, three switch positions. One of the pickups at a time. The versatility comes from the simple fact that the setup of each pickup balances out across the 3 selections perfectly.

I can go from a nice, smooth clean tone, through a snappier, more biting clean to a full, edgy crunch just from flicking the switch.

These Bullet Strats do nothing but enhance my live-playing experience. I can’t recommend them enough.
