Plenty of New Material Writtten

Well February Album Writing Month is over for another year, although I will be hanging around the website during March to do some more listening and commenting on other people’s songs. There are a lot of great songwriters there, so there is a lot to listen to.

It was an amazingly successful FAWM for me this year, although if you know my past FAWM output you might wonder why because this was the first year I didn’t reach the target of 14 songs.

The reason it was so good for me was because I didn’t reach 14 and I got to feel what that was like. Seeing as I had decided to post only songs that I considered finished and not works in progress I ended up with 9 songs (one of which was a collaboration) that I am very, very happy with. They are all keepers, even if I do end up going over some of them to tweak a few things. I don’t need to go back and re-work the songs at all, maybe just some improvements in the mixes or some slight production changes here and there.

Yes it felt really good to know that I won’t have a folder of unfinished songs that will likely sit languishing forever in an unfinished state from this year’s FAWM efforts. It also was a good lesson for my ego to see that it really is not a big deal to post less than 14 songs in February!

New Albums Are Coming

I am going to ensure that the songs written this FAWM are released by the end of March 2020 while they’re still fresh with one exception…

The collaboration I did (Move On) is with an awesome writer from the USA with whom I’ve collaborated with for the past six FAWM challenges. We have enough material for an album of those songs now, which I intend to release by the end of this year. It’ll have plenty of old-school funk and soul vibe and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into finishing it properly.

I hope we can get a couple more new ones written to make sure the record is fully stocked with great material: All killer, no filler as they say!

One of my tracks (We Will Shine Like a Light) is actually ear-marked for my light & shadows project, which is still a way off, but something I want to get back to after releasing the above mentioned records, but it will be included on this album anyway.

So for now “FAWM 2020”, which is the only album title I have right now will consist of 8 tracks and be about 30 minutes long.

Gig & Rig Updates

I got to use the latest rig setup last weekend, playing a wedding gig. I actually made a minor change to the pedalboard from what I posted about (I used a different pedal for the volume boost), but essentially it was the same in principle. It worked really well.

I tweaked it a tiny bit more today, so I’m eager to try it out liv. It seems like a further, small improvement. But if it’s not I can very easily put it back to what did work at the last gig.

Stay tuned for a future video on the pedalboard rig. I’m still trying to work out the best way to cover all the features and settings without it becoming a really long-winded and boring video, so it may take some time to put together.

Look out for the album!
